TOKYO: The record-shattering rainfall that hit Japan’s southern island of Kyushu this week is connected to climate change, experts say. Japan's Meteorological Agency issued a warning Saturday for unprecedented rainfall, calling for residents in Kyushu to take "maximum caution." In Japan, localized heavy rainfall events producing accumulated three-hour precipitation amounts larger than 200 mm are often observed to cause severe landslides and floods.
